The Map of Sigil, City of Doors (2025)

This map descends from two well-known planewalker.com downloads: hi-res PDF mapofSigil andSigil Venues spreadsheet, acompilation ofall named venues culled from official Planescape material.

It lists basic information about each location, wherever available, andisprimarily intended toserve as areference index rather than asubstitute forthevarious products inwhich these venues appear.

The latest release is also available on GitHub.

Locations

There are currently 308 Sigil venues in the list, but only 289 map pins (some venues like TheSecret Door simply don’t have aconstant location). Data have been culled from avariety ofsources including most official 2esupplements, adventures and even setting specific novels and avideo game.

Тo be included inthis compilation alocation needs to have aproper name orunique moniker, belocated inSigil (oratleast have its primary access point inSigil) and serve some type ofidentifiable function (beitpublic orprivate).

Places of business are usually followed by aqualifier which identifies the type ofestablishment itis (forexample: inn, tavern, etc).

The vast majority ofthese venues find their origins in2eAD&D sources which predate the events described intheFaction War adventure. Many are also culled from adventures and supplements with noclear mention ofwhen inthecity’s history these venues came into being orlater became defunct; leaving dubious timeline issues and thefates ofsome ofthelocations forindividual DMs toresolve.

Some venues, intheir original context, have only dubious mentions concerning their placement within thecity’s wards while others offer nosuch clues. In other circumstances some ofthe venues have two ormore sources which contradict each other inregards to location. Although individual DMs are free toplace such venues inwhichever ward suits their own tastes and story needs, for the purpose ofcreating the accompanying Sigil Map, it was necessary toascribe each venue adefinitive position within thecity’s six wards. In such circumstances asubjective decision was made based onthe available background material and the resultant entry ismarked inred.

Venues without an exact location are greyed-out in the list.

Since Sigil isdescribed asbeing morphic innature, both growing and shrinking atthe Lady’s whim with both buildings andstreets being movedby theDabus over time, the map isintended torepresent only one possible geographic configuration ofthecity with approximate distances. Scale ofthefeatures onthemap isonly representational, meaning that individual buildings are purposefully enlarged todepict appearance and importance rather than relative scale toeach other.

Rating

Star rating is asubjective evaluation ofhowcompletely the venue isdescribed inthesource material.

A single star indicates that thesource material contains little tonoinformation beyond what isincluded inthelist.

Two stars indicate that thesource material contains afew additional background details beyond what isincluded inthelist.

Three stars indicate that there is significant background information available inthesource material concerning the venue, possibly including some significant background information.

Four stars indicate that the venue isdescribed ingreat detail with most ofthepertinent information aDM might like toknow, usually including amap.

Five stars are reserved for fully fleshed-out venues, usually including maps, key NPC stats, extensive background information and possibly even artwork.
